Thai Health-Risk
Transition: a National Cohort Study
Health
research on the Thai population titled the "Thai Health-Risk
Transition: A National Cohort Study" (TCS) was funded
by the Wellcome Trust of United Kingdom, National Health and
Medical Research Council of Australia, and Health research
Council of New Zealand. It is conducted by the Department of
Human Ecology at Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU)
and the National Centre for Epidemiology & Populaton Health
(NCEPH) at the Australian National University (ANU) in collaboration
with Thai researchers from Chiang Mai University , the Ministry
of Public Health, the Office of National Economic and Social
Development Board (NESDB), and Australian researchers from
University of Queensland .
The
research was established with an aim to investigate the complexity
of health risk transition in Thailand and use it as a guideline
for policy making on public health and health promotion.This
study is conducted by following a large cohort group of 100,000
STOU students scattered all over the country and from all level
of socio-economic, environment, and behavioral background,
which truly represent the country's population in general.
The
TCS has launched questionnaires by mail and will collect data
for analysis in order to identify all health risks. In the
meantime reports will be presented preriodically until the
fifth year then a second launch of the original questionnaires
will be mailed out to former respondents to determinet how
their health has changed. |
